About
"Every bit engaging as it is sensual"
~LA Independent

In August 2005, our little show about the woes of finding love
made it's glorious debut at Hollywood's Masquers Cabaret. With a
cast of five, The Brown Betties burned up the tiny stage and Joe
charmed the red velvet off the curtains. Our show was 25
minutes long - if that.

You spoke, we listened.
You fans yelled, "Longer!" so we made it longer. We'd planned for
only four shows that beautiful fall. You demanded: "More!" so we
laced up our bustiers and booked more shows at Masquers that
year. We kept going. We moved to Silver Lake's famed El Cid for
late 2006/'07 and completed a full one-year residency at LA's
so-hot-it's-cool joint, The Mint in 2008. We kept goin'. We brought
on a new director and added cast. "Ms. Bettie", the
Cigar/Cigarettes Girl and a tap dancer made us a family of eight.

"Your show was nothing short of amazing."
~ Casey, The Mint Talent Booker
Meet Peppur Chambers, Christy Gamble, Keena Ferguson and
Danielle Lewis -- the four phenomenal women who bring this sultry
experience to life...sometimes with the mere wink of an amber eye.

Individually, these triple threats tell a specific, emotional story. Yet,
they leave you wanting more as they collectively entertain and entice
with classic style that is often missing from today's entertainment.

In other words, the
Brown Betties bring it like it hasn't been brought
before.
Our literary sizzle. Read our sassy monthly online magazine
which offers fiction, poetry, advice and more. We also spotlight
a fabulous woman who's out there doin' her thing as our
monthly Brown Bettie. February's BB is Brooklyn-based author,

Brown Betties & Joe:
A Bedtime Story
"There's absolutely nothing else like your show!"
~Tim Reid, Actor/Activist/Author

Word on the street grew. If someone mentioned "all-black burlesque in LA" the first answer (and only answer) became:
"Brown Betties".

We have continued to listen.
"Harlem's Night: Giving Cabaret A Story" was our birth name; but when you experienced us, you simply screamed "Brown Betties"!
The name  stuck. Hey, we're OK with change. In fact, with over 30 shows under our garters, we're taking a hiatus to revamp our
vamp. We hope you're OK with change! We are now:

Brown Betties & Joe: A Bedtime Story

Our unique premise will remain the same:
A sultry, sassy, sophisticated cabaret that combines the tease of burlesque with the intimacy of dinner theater to tell a
universal tale of a lonely woman (HARLEM) looking for love in all the wrong places (JOE). Told through the character perspectives of
Love, Hate, Want and Need, our 1940s bedtime story soothes the soul while sizzling the senses with singing, dancing and acting.

We'll be back steamier than ever in Spring/Summer '09! We look forward to telling our bedtime story again. Will you be prepared to
listen?
